Speak to a Counsellor
When you contact a counsellor or service, you’ll have an initial conversation then arrange a time to meet weekly for 50 mins to an hour. Sometimes there is a waiting list. Most services are free or means tested.
You will be able to speak freely and confidentially, and there is no need to tell your story if you don’t want to. Many people chose to focus on the issues they are dealing with day to day instead. It’s very normal to feel nervous and your counsellor will help you to feel safe.

'Before I had ever spoken about my abuse I felt this hazy dark cloud surrounded many parts of my life however after speaking to a therapist and talking more openly about what happened to me with other people I felt an overall sense of peace.'
